We are highly evolved social animals, skilled in making judgements about other
people – based, sometimes, on pretty flimsy evidence – so the interviewer
will also be interested in your self-awareness and self-presentation during the
interview (see Chapter 3). Once again, the words you say and the way you
say them will need to join up if you want to leave the interviewer with the best
possible impression.
ARE YOU A PEOPLE PERSON?
as well as the preparation already covered in Chapter 2,
try to recall examples of situations where you have had to:
n get people to buy in to an idea or process
n pass on a difficult message
n handle interpersonal conflict
n develop/coach a person or a group
n make ‘people’ decisions, such as who to put in a team
n ‘sell’ an idea or a product
n plan communication across a wide group of people.
Once again, use the CaR process to frame a short description of the
example, making sure that you cover the circumstances, the action you
took and the results.
