              Does not contain blood vessels.
              Outermost layer of the skin.
            Dermis
              Innermost layer of the skin.

              Gives elasticity to allow stretching and conferring flexibility.
              On average, nails grow 1mm per week.
              Connective tissue layer.
              Contains collagen and elastic fibers.
              Protein, keratin epidermal tissue to form finger nails.
            Hypodermis
              Made up of adipose tissue.
              Protect against infectious organisms.
              Protects body from dehydration.
              Maintains body temperature by homeostatis.
              Generates vitamin D on exposure to UV light.
              Water, fat, glucose and Vitamin D are stored.
            Animal nutrition and Digestion
              Animals are not capable of synthesizing their own food.
              They obtain food from outside environment for their nutritional requirements.
            Mineral Nutrients
              Metals, non-metals and their salts except carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen and oxygen.

              Constitutes about 4% of total body weight.
              Sources of minerals- milk, eggs, meat, food, fruits and vegetables.
              Consists of two types:
                Macronutrients: Required in large amount. E.g. Ca, P, K etc
                Micronutrients: Requires only small amount. E.g I, Fe, Zn atc.
            Water
              Human body consists of 75% water.
              Essential for digestion, transportation, excretion.
              To regulate body temperature.
            Food Adulteration
              Addition of undesirable, cheap and harmful substances in the food.
              Indian Standards Institution (ISI) Mark and Agmark are given by Bureau of Indian Standards
                (BIS).
            Human Digestive System
              Consists of alimentary canal and digestive glands.
              Alimentary  canal  consists  of  mouth  (teeth  and  tongue),  oesophagus,  stomach,  small
                intestine and large intestine.
            Teeth
              With the help of teeth, food is chewed.
              Consists of four types.
                Incisors – for cutting
                Canines – for tearing.
                Premolars – for  chewing
