other illnesses.
• Secondary cancers are common as an after effect of radiation
therapy, such as leukemia and more tumors. These will not show
up immediately but, in most cases, will become manifest within a
five-year period.
In conclusion, the use of radiation therapy in itself is effective but can
be quite harmful and can cause more problems later on.
Radiation therapy is rarely used on its own, as it has a set purpose to
temporarily shrink a tumor and kill some cancer cells in preparation for
surgery or as an adjunct therapy with chemotherapy, as we will now
discuss.
#3- Chemotherapy/Systemic Drugs
Because of the limitations from an external process, such as surgery or
radiation, systemic drugs have been designed to affect the entire body
when it comes to cancer.
However, they themselves are still lacking sufficient punch, as it were,
to eradicate cancer and must be used in a combination of therapies.
