Example #3, continued:
The Slot in the Wall
Imagine that you will slip your module through a slot in the
wall, to be administered by an instructor on the other side. You
can peek through a little window to see what is happening, but
you can neither talk to the instructor nor use body language to
signal what should be done next. All you can do is to slip your
package through the wall and watch.
What would happen? The instructor picks up the package
and fingers through the pieces. What will he or she do then?
Would this instructor know whether there are some prepara-
tions that need to be made before giving the module to a stu-
dent? How would this instructor know what to read or look at
first? Would this person know:
• what to collect in the way of equipment, supplies and
materials, or resources?
• what sort of environment to arrange?
• how to prepare equipment for practice?
• how to schedule students for practice on scarce equip-
ment or other resources?
• how to anticipate and handle common problems or ques-
tions?
• how to review practice exercises, if any?
• how to review skill check performance?
• when and how to suggest alternative resources and activi-
ties?
