C. The Process of Revision
Revision involves a deep evaluation of your draft. It requires
you to step back and ask fundamental questions about your
essay’s overall structure, clarity, and argumentation. This is
where you assess whether your thesis is clear, your supporting
points are strong, and your essay flows logically from one point
to the next.
When revising, consider the following aspects:
Thesis Clarity: Does your thesis clearly state your main
argument? Is it focused and specific? Ensure that your
thesis provides a roadmap for the rest of your essay.
Content and Evidence: Do your body paragraphs provide
strong evidence that supports your thesis? Is each point
relevant to your argument? If necessary, eliminate irrelevant
details or add stronger examples to clarify your argument.
Organization: Is the structure of your essay logical? Do ideas
flow smoothly from one paragraph to the next? Consider
reorganizing paragraphs or sections if needed to improve
coherence.
Transitions: Are transitions between paragraphs smooth
and clear? Effective transitions guide the reader through
your essay, showing how each point connects to the next.
After the revision phase, your essay should be structurally
sound, with a clear argument and well-organized supporting
points.
