PART IV. SPECIAL PROGRAMS
A. Vision and Tasks (V.A.T.) Circle
Gifted and talented students are provided with leadership, productivity, and
intellectual enrichment activities. These activities are geared towards developing
creativity, critical thinking, and problem analysis. VAT classes are conducted
once a week.
Advanced Learning Program (A.L.P.)
This program is designed to meet the needs of academically gifted learners
and/or very high achievers in Mathematics, Science, and English. It assists each
identified student to reach his/her highest level of potential in terms of academic
achievement. It allows for the expression of the individual’s interests, abilities,
and learning styles or preferences for productive ends.
The program is organized for some individualization and self-selection. It has the
same goals for gathering knowledge and developing skills as found in the regular
program but is qualitatively different in that it goes beyond fact gathering and
process development.
ALP provides opportunities for accelerated or advanced content, independence of
thought and study or self-directed learning. It also provides transfer of learning to
new and different disciplines and situations and a more complex understanding of
concepts and thought processes. It generates new information, creative ideas, and
outputs and maximizes the effective use of resources.
B. English as a Second Language (ESL) Special Program
The ESL Special Program addresses the unique needs of special learners through
an effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment. It serves as a transition
center that equips second language learners for the mainstream classes.
It is a transition program that facilitates the emotional, psychological and
academic adjustments of non-English speaking students to provide them basic
academic English skills while learning in the content areas to meet the demands
of mainstream classes.
