TOOLS – Having opportunities to play with real
tools is more interesting to children, which
naturally leads children to be more positively
invested in their use. The use of real tools honors
children’s abilities and intelligence and sends the
message that they are capable constructors,
destructors, imaginators, tinkerers and engineers.
As young children experiment with, sort, take
apart, build and tinker, ideas and imagination
begin to flow. Playing with tools can give children a
sense of accomplishment as well as a feeling of
pride. Tools can be anything from hammers and
screw drivers to saws, axes and knives, even
scissors and craft knives.
