4. Settling In Process

We know this can be an emotional time for both parents
and children. Our hope is that we can make this period as
      stress free as possible.

Our settling in process is focussed on the child - parents and guardians are of
course welcome to join in. Children are invited to visit our woodland nursery with
their parent/guardian to meet the staff prior to their official first day. They will
get a wee tour of the woodlands and get to see what adventures await them. This
will be all about ensuring your child feels comfortable and happy.

The proposed day/time should be agreed with the nursery manager prior to your
visit. Visits are free of charge. We encourage parents/guardians to retreat during
this time to support your child’s transition into nursery.

For some, this may be the first time leaving a parent, so we understand that this
time may be unsettling for both parents and children and do our best to make a
child feel safe, comfortable and at ease throughout the process. As part of the
settling in process we strongly advise parents to leave their child with the staff at
Wonder Woods for 2 short sessions (around 1 hour) prior to their first full stay.

      What to Expect
On pre-start visits, your child will be shown around the site by a member of staff
and introduced to other children. They will be shown where they are to hang their
coats/bags and where they will nap and go to the toilet. We want to make sure
your child feels happy and excited before leaving and will spend lots of time

getting to know them! Parents/guardians may ask any questions they may have
and may discuss any sleeping and/or eating habits their child may have.

On their first day, parents may wish to stay a little while to see that their child is
settled and happy before leaving, although this is at their discretion and is often
discouraged as it may prolong the challenge of leaving.

      A Wee Rest
Learning through play can be hard work. We will have cosy, comforting and
peaceful resting spaces in the form of our sleeping area, hammocks, cushions and
mattresses. We will, of course, discuss ‘napping’ arrangements and preferences
      with you.
