By Jon Earnest

Feeling the urgency to keep businesses operating whenever possible in the wake of COVID-19 restrictions from the state, the city of Reedley last week took drastic mea- sures to assist two neighboring downtown fitness facilities.
Officials closed a portion of two down- town streets — northbound on G Street and westbound on 10th Street — in front of the Gnardog Crossfit gym and Fitness Quest Health Club, respectively, to allow both businesses to set up workout equipment. Workout enthusiasts at both locations used the equipment and space in the early morn-

The city of Reedley worked with the club and nearby gym Gnardog Crossfit to block off portions of 10th and G streets to allow for outdoor exercise workouts. The move came in reaction to the state's closure order for gyms, hair and nail salons, barbershops and houses of worship.

Three men leaving work in the areas of Temperance Av- enue and American Avenue on July 17 were shot at by oc- cupants of a vehicle they said was not known to them.
“The victims who were in a red Buick said the occupants of a white Honda, possibly a Civ- ic, pulled up next to them and began firing at their vehicle,” said Tony Botti, the PIO for the Fresno County Sheriffs Office, at the scene on July 17. “So far the preliminary investigation is
that the suspects and the vic- tims do not know each other.”
“The victims are farm la- bor workers,” Botti said. “They were driving through and this white car pulled up and began firing at them.”
Two of the victims were struck by bullets, one of them in the hand and the other in the chest.
“EMS was able to trans- port both of the victims,” said Botti. “At last checked they’re both stable and are expected to make a full recovery.”
Investigators blocked off several roads near the crime
scene as they tried to gather details about the shooting as well as any possible motive.
“They didn’t have any sort of a dispute,” he said. “No road rage or anything like that.”
Botti said that a “be on the lookout” advisory was issued for surrounding departments.
The suspects were only described as three younger males driving a white Honda Civic. The year of the vehicle was not known.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s of- fice at (559) 600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867.
