Sentinel staff report
The Dinuba Unified School District is putting a house on the market, again.
Last year Dinuba High School’s Construction Management Academy did what the class has done plenty of times, and with great success – build a house. However, last year the academy took a different approach and, instead of building the house on purchased lots (like the ones on the southeast corner of Crawford and East Olive avenues) the academy chose to build on site.
It made for an easier process for the students building the house, as they were able to spend more time directly on the project. The result was a roughly 1,200 square foot house that sits on a movable foundation on the east end of the high school stadium.
The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and is insulated from top to bottom.
Originally, the district was hoping to get around $100,000 for the house. However, though there were several interested parties, the cost of moving the house from its current location became too much of a draw back for buyers.
For this reason, the district is dramatically lowering their asking price on the house and will now be taking bids from the general public. The district intends to sell the house to the highest bidder whose bid meets or exceeds $70,000.
Bids will be accepted at the District Office up until 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26. The house is currently still located at Dinuba High School and will be open by appointment for prospective buyers. Stadium and freshly sodded Ed Coats Field.
“This is now one of the best stadiums in the entire Valley,” said Cutler-Orosi head of Facilities and
Maintenance Raffi Saghomonian.
And Saghomonian is not exaggerating. Not only
is it the newest high school stadium in the Valley, it may also be the most sophisticated. That’s all thanks to a late decision by the district trustees to approve the addition of a large digital display scoreboard, replacing the older, nearly obsolete, unit.
The new red score board now stands tall at the east end of the field, flanked by two large flag poles. It towers in comparison to the old one. But its physical stature is not it's most impressive feature.
The large digital display screen is capable of showing video and graphics and is tied into the new stadium’s sound system. And because the district purchased a video package to go along with the board,
yes, even instant replays are possible on this new unit. It doesn’t stop there. The new score board is also capable of tracking live track and field events and
provide live times and scores.
This will come in handy for Orosi High School’s
new stadium because along with the shiny new bleachers and scoreboard, the stadium also features a brand new nine-lane all-weather synthetic track, in Cardinal Red, of course.
In making sure the track was done to California Interscholastic Federation specifications, Orosi High School Principal Roberto Vaca, who competed in track and field at his alma mater Sanger High School, consulted his old high school coach Dave Dotson. Dotson is the Chair for Central CIF track and field.
He drove out on multiple occasions to meet

One of the first things Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School Superintendent Yolanda Valdez did when taking over the position in her hometown was fix the parking lot at Orosi High School’s George Millhorn Stadium.
The parking lot was notorious for clouds of dust in the summer and puddles of mud in the fall and winter. The paving of the parking lot was a breath of fresh air for the small community, and perhaps a turning point for Orosi High School athletics, and the stadium they play in.
Today Orosi High School, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, and the community it serves can witness the next big turning point, as the district unveils a brand new state-of-the-art George Millhorn

The November election is just over two weeks away and six local citizens are running for three seats on the Dinuba City Council.
Last Wednesday, five of those candidates participated in the Government Affairs Committee’s Political Forum, held in the patio of the Alta District Historical Society Museum.
Of the candidates who participated in the forum only one incumbent was present, Dr. Kuldip Thusu, who represents District 4. Thusu, who is also currently the Vice- Mayor of Dinuba, is in his first re-election campaign.
Challenging him for the seat is Dinuba business woman Tish Perez, who was also at the forum.
The only incumbent not present at the forum was Maribel Reynosa, who was attending a family wedding out of town. Reynosa represents District 2 and is running against Victor Rojas, who

spent 20 years on the board of trustees for the Dinuba Unified School District.
Regardless of the outcome, District 3 will have a new council member, as current Dinuba Mayor Scott Harness will be stepping down at the end of this term. Running to fill his spot are Armando Longoria, a business man running in his third election, and business man Sal Medina, who is running in his first election.
During the forum candidates were asked to give their thoughts on issues from Community Development Block Grants, sunsets on taxes and what they would do about community eyesores, such as abandoned homes and vehicles.
See next week’s Sentinel for complete profiles on this year’s candidates.
