Adding Sensors
5. Adding Sensors
Once an asset is added to the database, it needs sensors added before a monitor can
be attached to collect data. Sensors need to be added to the asset for each monitoring
technology that will be attached to that asset.
To add sensors to an asset, select the asset in the database tree, and then press the
‘Add Sensors’ button on the ribbon or right-click the asset and select ‘Add Sensors’; then
select the type of sensor to add.

Note:
Different continuous monitors have different capabilities; while
sensors can be added in any way needed, some monitors may not be
able to fully utilize all available options.
For example, when adding EV sensors, there is an option of adding a
shaft trigger. This option is present because a GuardII+ can use a
shaft trigger to synchronize data collection and track EV phase
changes, but only a GuardII+ has this capability; older EV systems
cannot make use of a shaft trigger.
Note:
Some monitoring technologies require specific asset ratings to be
properly configured. If trying to add sensors to an asset that does not
have the required information IAM will warn you so that you can go
back and add the required ratings.
