100 Reflections that Crafted Geneva International

(1962), "What concerns everyone саn only be resolved bу everyone". Thus, the
challenge we face as we prepare for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations
is to define, inform and expand our constituency. We can no longer be content
to speak only in the words of the official or press release and expect our words
          to be heeded.

All these tasks need, of course, efforts and resources and I would like to
underline that we in the United Nations do not, and will not, expend funds that
are badly needed elsewhere. Governments and other sponsors will cover the
various expenses for the above-mentioned programmes. The Trust Fund
established for this purpose has, so far, received US$ 10 million, and we expect
this figure to rise to US$ 15 million sometime in mid-1995. Of course, not only
does such largesse help to educate people on the vital role the United Nations
plays in promoting world реасе, it also contributes to the vitality of the local
communities in which these activities are held.

I would also like to reiterate my great appreciation for the goodwill and
support in planning, funding and implementing "UN-50" projects in and
around Geneva shown by the Republic and Canton of Geneva, as well as the
City. Together, we will do our utmost to fulfil the expectations of the
SecretaryGeneral so that the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations can be
an opportunity not only to look back on the road we have travelled and learn
from the past, but also to pave the way for the century to come.
