9. I also hope that your visit to Palais des Nations will help you not just to
learn the basic facts about the UN but also to better understand its spirit and its
major purpose. It is about freedom, equality and justice and the idea that all
people, regardless of their nationality, religion or colour of skin, can, and
should, live together in а friendly way on the planet of galaxies, which is known
as the planet Earth. Many centuries ago, а Roman philosopher Seneca wrote:
"We were born to live together, and our society is like an arch which stands
precisely because the stones prevent each other from falling". This is, perhaps,
the most accurate definition of what the United Nations should be in the time
of global change.
