                     A  Do you know any interesting looking animals? Tell a partner about an animal you think is
                         interesting. Then read the text.

                           The Yellow-Tailed Woolly Monkey

                             The yellow-tailed woolly monkey is a very
                           rare animal. It has thick brown fur and white
                           hair around its mouth. The monkey is named
                           for the bright yellow fur underneath its long,
                           curled tail. These monkeys live in a small area                           Yellow-tailed woolly
                           in the high mountains of Peru. With their long                            monkey, Alto Mayo,
                                                                                                     Amazonas, Peru
                           arms and legs and powerful tail, they move
                           quickly through the forests.

                             Unfortunately, these monkeys have lost a
                           lot of their natural habitat. Farms and cattle
                           ranches  are some of the reasons for this.

                           People are now working hard to protect these
                           amazing animals.

                           In the text in exercise A, the writer uses adjectives and adverbs to describe a rare
                           kind of monkey.
                              Adjectives: It has thick brown fur and white hair around its mouth.
                              Nouns as adjectives: Farms and cattle ranches are some of the reasons for this.
                              Adverbs of manner: . . . they move quickly through the forests.
                              Adverbs of degree: The yellow-tailed woolly monkey is a very rare animal.



                     B  Read the text in exercise A again. Underline the adjectives and circle the adverbs of manner
                         and degree. Then work with a partner and compare your answers.

                     C  Complete the chart with information about the woolly monkey from exercise A. Write
                         adjectives or adverbs and the words they describe.
