A Member of the Greatest Generation L eft More than Memories B ehind
Bought new in 1961, this F 100 was given to me by my grandfather about 25 years
ago. It is mostly original and runs quite well considering its age. I am proud to share
this with the Nashville British car club and interested parties
Herbert Thornt on Burns, more affectionately known as 'Grandaddy Burns', or simply 'Grandaddy', is my
maternal grandfather. Like many of his generation, the 'Greatest Generation', he was a worker. With a
third grade education, and the practical skills to otherwise do ANYTHING, he accomplished much in his
life, and succeeded in ways foreign to many in today's world.
Grandaddy was the 'Plant Manager' for Pet Milk in Kosciusko, MS, and, because Pet Milk supplied the
military, he was considered an 'essential worker', relieved of his requirement to be called up by the 'draft'.
On his fourth deferment, Grandaddy told Pet Milk he was 'going, because it wasn't right that his brothers
had been drafted'.
