For Over Half a Century this Morgan from Texas has Lived Large
This photo is of my 1965 Morgan +4. I bought it off a car lot in downtown Dallas, Texas in 1971. At the time I was
stationed at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth and was looking for a second car. I was young, then, and didn't consider
anything in the purchase other than I wanted a Morgan roadster, even though I'd only seen one before in Knoxville, a
few years earlier while in college there.
After its purchase in 1971, I drove it daily as my second car until around 1987 after moving from Memphis to
Nashville. It was totally restored in the late 1980s but, unfortunately, it now spends too much time resting in my
basement. It was given a checkup and maintenance in November 2022.
The car was "dispatched" from the Morgan Motor Company Limited factory at Pikersleigh Road, Malvern Link,
Worcestershire, United Kingdom in March of 1965. The car is actually registered as a 1966 model and is in its original
configuration except for the addition of an electric cooling fan, supper sport bucket seats instead of the original bench
seat, wire wheels, and a slightly modified engine.
Its original BRG paint had a little more black in it, resulting in a darker green than is more commonly seen. While
most Morgan roadster owners place a belt over the bonnet/hood, they did not come from the factory with that
accessory.
