You Ought to be ( actually you were ) in Pictures
This is my 1966 Sunbeam Alpine, which I purchased in Virginia 1979 for $600 to replace one that
someone hit and totaled. At that time it was actually possible to buy used Sunbeams for $250. It was
one of eight of mine at the time. Alas, I sold seven of them before moving to California.
This one was was restored in 2015, for a lot more than $600, and resides with me in Nashville. It is
mostly original, but has a replacement radiator, electronic ignition, and custom rear upholstery in place
of a convertible top.
I?ve liked Sunbeams ever since my friend?s dad introduced them to me. I?ve owned Triumphs, an Austin
Healey, MGs, and numerous Jaguars, but the Alpine suits me, as it is solidly built, comfortable, and fun to
drive. Plus I get to talk to people who ask about the car about movies and TV shows (Dr. No, Butterfield
8, Get Smart) and the connection to Carroll Shelby.
