having a bridge as a part of your “tool kit” is good). Do they get enough time to do the
things they want to do? (See Inquiry Skills p177).
Use CYCS after the meeting to enter examples of concerns for the child; both positive
and negative items are important. You should get a sense of the relationship with each
parent through this exercise.
End the activity with offering the child to engage in something of their choice such as
using the clay/play-dough, game, or drawing. Add the information you gain to the
CYCS.
ACTIVITY 2. TWO WORLDS CARDS
Best for 5 years to teens
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare a large piece of paper (butcher paper size – or flipchart paper) and
place it on the floor. Put on top of the page three headings MUM… BOTH ….
DAD. For younger children you may choose to keep the activity simpler and
just place the two parent names at the top.
Script
As you can see (child’s name), I have a big piece of paper here and I wrote
Mum/Mom, Dad and both down (point to the 3 columns). I put a whole bunch of
different pictures on the floor. I am going to get you to look at the pictures and
pick ones that remind you of your mum or your mum house and your dad or your
dad house. Some of the cards might remind you of both and we can put those
ones on the paper here (point to the both column). You can pick as many as you
would like to go under each of these places (point to the columns).
