Emotional Space
The children described the emotional space that they each have with each parent
positively. They each stated positively, that both parents had rules for
maintaining contact with the other parent
Understanding of the Parental Separation
The children described some confusion about their parents’ separation. Neither
could describe much about the events of the separation apart from the great
sadness of their parents
Family Relationships
Both Lilly and Kyle described strong relationships with their extended family. Kyle
reported a strong activity based relationship with his maternal grandfather
Peer Supports
Lilly and Kyle described strong relationships with friends. They both enjoyed their
friends at school and during weekend and holiday playdates. Both children
described times where their parents were supportive of play dates at their home
and at the home of friends
Community Connections
Both Lilly and Kyle described involvement in their afterschool soccer and netball
teams. They enjoyed the times when their parents could watch their games, and
enjoyed the times when their mother could attend the sports practice sessions
Other
The children did not raise any other concerns
Parenting Agreement (example)
SUE and TOM attended mediation at Calgary with Dr Lorri Yasenik and Jon Graham
(Name of mediator) to discuss and resolve the future care and wellbeing of their
children, Lilly (age 7 years) and Kyle (age 9 years).
The parents agree that they are seeking to make decisions that reflect their mutual
love for their children, and that placed the interests of the children as their paramount
consideration. In approaching the decisions about future parenting, SUE and TOM
spoke together about their children’s unique characters, their coping since the
separation and their specific needs that they will each have into the future.
They agreed that they were married on the *** of **** /**** at *********** and
decided to separate on **/**/**.
