         3 UNIT VISUAL ARTS STUDENTS EXCEL AT NATIONAL ART SCHOOL

         Five Year 11 Visual Arts students, who were
         selected to attend the prestigious Intensive
         Studio Practice course at the National Art
         School in Darlinghurst this year, were awarded
         with a Band 6 result. These students were
         selected from students across NSW who are
         achieving at the highest level of excellence
         in their Preliminary HSC Course and who
         demonstrate a mature attitude to their studies.
         Blue Mountains Grammar School students were
         selected from a very competitive application
         process for this 1 Unit HSC course. These
         courses involve a 60 hour Board of Studies
         endorsed course completed over the period
         of two holiday breaks includes preparing an
         additional Body of Work to the one they must   Finnian, Belle, Giselle, Matilda and Holly with their Art teacher,

         complete for the 2 Unit HSC course.
         Finnian O’Conner and Belle Ashford completed the Life Drawing course, which focuses on developing
         observational drawing skills while studying the structure of the human form. Matilda Merry took part in the
         Painting course where she interpreted the formal qualities and language of a historically significant painting, and
         developed her own paintings. Giselle Vasquez–Seers completed the Digital Media course, which explores the
         possibilities particular to digitally produced photography and film, and Holly Camilleri completed the course in
         Black and White Photography.
         This course gave our students the opportunity to gain life experience of intense studio practice, to be surrounded
         by creative students from all of the various art disciplines, to have exposure to professional artists and galleries,
         and have their work critiques by external art professional. Students also have the the benefit of spending time on
         a university campus and to experience what it might be like to study art professionally.

         ANNUAL DR KEN MARSHALL ART & DESIGN AWARDS

         In November, the Art & Design Department
         hosted the 18  Dr Ken Marshall Art & Design

         Awards.
         This remarkable exhibition of students’ works
         created throughout the year showed enormous
         diversity of media and method and was indicitive
         of the richness of the Visual Arts program
         offered at the School.
         Similarly, the work of students in the Design
         courses (Design & Technology, Industrial
         Technology (Timber) and IPT), showcased the
