HONOURED FOR SERVICE
HONOURED FOR SERVICE
Year 12 student William Hedges was honoured by the RFS for his voluntary work with the organisation during
the harrowing fire season experienced in the Blue Mountains during the 2019/2020 summer. As a result of his
efforts, Will received a NSW Premier’s Citation for his invaluable and tireless work for the RFS, both in the field
and in support roles. Whilst such citations are usually presented in a formal ceremony, in this exceptional year
of social distancing, Will received his award at the Brigade from District Manager Nicholas Medianik.
HOUSEWORK
HOUSEWORK
A key part of our Ad Altiora framework focuses on altruism,
integrity and service to others. Our Houses continue offer
opportunities to further develop these key character traits
through their annual support local and wider charities,
In February, Hughes House ran its annual - and highly
successful - Red Rose Day fundraiser, in which roses are
purchased by students as gifts for each other (or for Staff) and
this year all funds raised ($680) were donated to the BMCC
Mayoral Fund for Bushfire Relief.
In March, Pitt House organised Easter Hampers in support of
Junction 142, a project by Earth Recovery Australia that aims
to build a stronger community by providing opportunities for
people to socialise, to volunteer, to donate time and goods, to
give and receive, and to support each other in a thriving and
vibrant creative environment. This is done through promoting
practical support and education opportunities that empower
people with the tools to create their own positive change. The
students, their parents and carers and staff worked to put
together Easter Hampers, many of which were overflowing
with items that will be extremely useful and practical for
vulnerable members of our local community.
In June, Ziele House was on the front foot with fundraising,
supporting Beanies4Brain Cancer, with students and staff
across all three campuses wearing beanies and raising
$678.00. They followed this in Term 3 their highly successful
annual STEPtember fundraiser. in which staff, students
and Alumni strapped on their pedometres and collectively
stepped 11, 394, 510 steps, raising an amazing $3,430 for the
Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
In October, Deane House continued their annual fundraising
for their major charity, CanTEEN (Bandanna Day) for which
they raised more than $1,000.
Sadly, the annual 45km Walk was unable to be held due to COVID-19 restrictions, as was several of our other
major annual fundraisers, so all Houses are looking ahead to 2021 with optimism that these ventures will return.
