HSC RESULTS 2020
Just as we began the year celebrating the
achievements of the Class of 2019, we
bookended the year with another outstanding achievements in his HSC was the selection of
set of HSC results from the Class of 2020.
This Year group were exceptional - not just for
their successes in their final examinations, but
also for reaching such wonderful outcomes
whilst facing - and rising to - all the challenges
that this “COVID-19 year” threw at them.
The students did not just reach the goals they
had strived for; in many cases they exceeded
their own expectations. Whilst many of
the “rites of passage” that Year 12 students
traditionally enjoy during their final year at
BMGS were unavoidably denied them, they
retained their focus and determination, and
their tenacity and resilience were rewarded.
Dux of the Year, with an ATAR of 99.15, was
Nicholas Mayrhofer, who also received a
NSW Government’s All Round Achievers
Award, which recognises students who gain
Band 6 results in each of their HSC Courses.
Nicholas’ excellent results were achieved
in Drama, Economics, English (Advanced),
English Extension 1, Mathematics (Advanced)
and French Continuers.
Proxime Accessit of the Year, with an
ATAR of 98.55, was Simon Dowd, with
excellent results in Biology, Chemistry,
English Advanced, Mathematics Extension
1, Mathematics Extension 2 and Outdoor
Education 1.
Recognition of Exemplary HSC Major Works

Among the many highlights from this Year
group was the recognition by the NSW
Education Standards Authority (NESA) of
several BMGS students whose major projects
were adjudged by HSC markers as among the
best in the State.

Finnian O’Connor’s Major Body of Work
(Painting) was included in ARTEXPRESS.
In further news, Sel Hardaker, who was
First Violin in the School’s orchestra,
auditioned and was accepted into the Sydney
Conservatorium of Music.
We congratulate all the students in the Year
12 cohort for their wonderful HSC results
and wish them every success on the various
paths they choose beyond school.
Special mention must be made of
Year 9 students Oliver Drew and Tien
Attwater. Oliver undertook both the HSC
Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2
examinations, gaining an E4 (equiv. Band
6) result in both, whilst Tien gained a Band
5 in Mathematics Advanced. These were
truly extraordinary results for these talented
young Mathematicians.
Overall, this Year groups’ wonderful results
placed BMGS inside the top 120 schools in
the State (of more than 700 selective and
non-selective schools) and as the premier
school in our region.
