At this year’s Valedictory Dinner, five students were awarded Gold Colours or a
Grammar Blue for achieving State or National level of participation in their chosen
         field of endeavour.
Gold Colours (for School-based activities) or a Grammar Blue (for an external
activity) are the highest awards the School can bestow. They acknowledge not only
the level of attainment, they also reflect a student’s investment in the life of the
School, such as coaching or mentoring younger students, together with upholding
the honour of the School at all times and demonstrating leadership in their activity.

Nicholas Mayrhofer (Year 12) is one of 25 secondary students,
nationally, to have been awarded the prestigious Tuckwell Scholarship
to study at the Australian National University (ANU).
The Tuckwell Scholarship is a bursary awarded to students
commencing undergraduate studies at the ANU, with a focus on
giving back to Australia, and covers up to five years of full-time study.
In addition to stringent academic criteria, Nicholas’ application relied
on him being able to demonstrate, in a rigorous series of interviews,
the “attributes of a Tuckwell Scholar,” which include such qualities as
humility and emotional intelligence. Nicholas was also required to
demonstrate how his family is connected to Australia and contributes
to their local community, or a wider region, and how this strengthens
         their ties to Australia.
Nicholas was School Captain and Dux of his year group, gaining
an ATAR of 99.15 (see previous page). Nicholas received a NSW
Government All Round Achievers Award, which recognises students
who gain a Band 6 result in each of their HSC courses and his Drama
Individual Project, in the category of Scriptwriting, was selected for
inclusion in the HSC Drama Showcase, Onstage.
At the ANU, Nicholas will be undertaking a double degree in Politics,
Philosophy & Economics, and International Relations. All Tuckwell
Scholars reside in Scholars House for the duration of their study
and Nicholas is looking forward to working with this extraordinary
         collection of outstanding young people.
