Rf value:
The retention factor, retardation factor:
It is the distance traveled by the compound divided by the distance
traveled by the solvent.

The Rf for a compound is a constant from one experiment to the
next, only if the chromatographic conditions are constant
"Relative Rf“ values are generally considered.
the Rf values are reported relative to a standard run on the same
plate at the same time.
HPTLC
Advantage:
1- Better cost/ performance ratio
2- Improved resolution and less diffusion
3- Detection limits lower by a factor of 10-15. (when HPTLC plate
is visualized under UV light, 10 ng of sample detected, compared
to 100ng in conventional
