Another rare serious side effect is the risk of
developing leukemia, up to years after taking thedrug.
Tumor lysis syndrome.
This occurs when large amounts of cancerous cellsare
rapidly killed by the therapy, (usually occurs within 24 –
48 hours of therapy).
Tumor lysis syndrome can lead to kidney failure andother
sudden health problems. Intravenous fluids and
medications prevent this complication.
