Identification test:
Alcoholic extract of podophyllin → bright green colour ,

addition of few drops of saturated cupper acetate solution

→ brown precipitate Indian podophyllin

→ no brown precipitate American podophyllin

Structural requirement for cytotoxic (anticancer) activity
*Intact lactone ring. Avoid strong alkali
*Trans fused lactone ring.

Avoid mild alkali, it affects stereochemistry of the Lactonering
