Plant stilbenes
Combretastatins
The combretastatins, such as combretastatin A-4 are
stilbenes. In the 1970s, they were isolated from the South
African Combretum caffrum, as part of a random collection
program for the US National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Combretastatins are unrelated to statins, a family of
cholesterol-lowering drugs
