Balsams
• They are not produced by plant normally but as a result of injury.
• They Contain a high percentage of balsamic acids (benzoic and cinnamic).
• Benzoin is a pathological product as a result of injury and also by fungi.
The trees do not produce balsam but only after injury the cambium
produces new wood with a schizolyzogenous duct formed.
