It is the oleo-gum resin exuding from roots and rhizomes of Ferula foetida f.
Apiaceae
-Only female plant produces oleogum resins

Constituents

• Volatile oil: sesquiterpene, sulphur compounds (disulphide responsible for

alliaceous odor.

• Gum: unknown composition mainly ferulic acid esters.

• Resin: asaresinol, converted by air to red color asaresinol
• Combined umbelliferone
• Coumarins
