• (-) cinchonidine and (+) cinchonine
       • They occur in plant combined with some organic acids, chiefly quinic and

           cinchotannic acids .

( - ) Quinine
       • Quinine occurs as white crystalline powder
       • It is levorotary, gives quinidine (d-isomer) when warmed with KOH in amyl
           alcohol.
       • Quinine is diacidic bases due to presence of 2N atoms),
       • They form two types of salts.
           1- Neutral salts (Quinine sulphate), insoluble in water
           2-Acidic salts (Quinine bisulphate),soluble in water.
