Isoquinoline alkaloids
Alkaloids belong to isoquinoline group are represented by:
1- Ipecacuanha alkaloids
2- Curare alkaloids
3- Benzylisoquinoline alkaloids of Opium
1- Ipecacuanha alkaloids
Occurrence
• Ipeca roots and rhizomes have been used in therapy as emetic and
expectorant; antiamaebic dysentery.
The main Ipeca alkaloids:
• Emetine, cephaeline, psychotrine,and ipecoside.
• Emetine is a non phenolic alkaloid.
