• Chicken broth ( inappropriate high sodium content)
• Tea ( low sodium content)
• BRAT diet (Banana, rice, apple sauce & toast)?
• Age –appropriate diet ( carbohydrate-rich, yogurt, lean
meat, fruits & vegetables,)
• Avoid fatty, simple sugars & spicy
• Avoid caffeine rich

• If mild ( 50ml/kg)/ 2 to 4 hrs until child rehydrated
• If moderate ( 100ml/kg)
• Even if vomiting
• Continue diet (cpx carbohydrate)
• Continue milk (breast milk, bottled with no lactose)
• Mild (2-3 stools/day)..WHO
• 2-4L/first 4 hr, then replace ongoing losses (>5years of age)
• 50 ml/kg/first 4 hr, then 10ml/kg or 1/2-1 cup per stool.(<5 years of age)
• Moderate(4-5 stools/day)..WHO
• 2 L/first 4hr, then replace ongoing losses. (>5years of age)
• 100 ml/kg/first 4 hr, then 10ml/kg or 1/2-1 cup per stool. .(<5 years of age)
