Loperamide
• Dosage
• 4mg initially, then 2mg after each loose stool (max
16mg, 48hrs)
• Caplets & liquid
• Adverse effects:
• Low (dizziness, constipation)
• May cause toxic megacolon in AB- induced diarrhea, or
pseudomembranous colitis, worsen effects of invasive
bacterial infection
• Stop if abdominla distention, ileus or constipation

§ Lomotil (diphenoxylate + Atropine) Co-

ü Acts by slowing intestinal contractions and
peristalsis & prolong transit time
ü it cross the BBB and cause lots of
side effects
ü Atropine is an antispasmodic
ü contraindicated in pregnancy &
lactation.
ü Side effects: respiratory depression
atropinism, drowsiness, sedation addiction
