Hepatotoxicity: Several case reports describe hepatotoxic reactions
associated with the use of black cohosh
Black cohosh is contraindicated in patients with pre-existing liver disease.
Patients on long-term black cohosh therapy should be monitored for signs
and symptoms of liver damage.
- Patients should be advised to stop taking black cohosh preparations,
and to consult their doctor if they experience symptoms that may
indicate liver injury. Use of black cohosh preparations for excessive
periods (exceeding 3 months) should be avoided.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Black cohosh is contraindicated during Pregnancy and lactation
