• Desired onset and duration of action
➢ Drugs that are more soluble in body fluids show the most rapid
absorption and onset of action.
➢ Sometimes, long action is desired to reduce the frequency of
injections (depot preparations).
➢ Rapidity of onset: solutions > suspensions & aqueous preparations
> oleaginous preparations
