• Requirements:
➢ Highly purified (low particle count, same as purified water)
➢ Pyrogen-free (not necessarily sterile, but there is a bacterial count
restriction)
➢ Contains no added substances

Sterile water for injection (SWFI)
• Use:
It is used as a solvent, vehicle, or diluent for already sterilized and
packaged injectable medications of for their reconstitution. It’s used in
reconstitution of single-dose injections.
