Parenterals: Containers & packaging
Container form: multiple-dose
• The rubber closure (or septum) is usually protected
by a plastic flip-off cap. This acts as a dust cap and
does not provide a covering that maintains the
sterility of the septum prior to use.
• To withdraw a dose from a vial, the cap is
removed, and the septum disinfected with a sterile
alcohol wipe.

Injection pens
• Pen injectors are the most widely used injection devices and have
been long used in the diabetes management.
• Pen injectors are portable and provide greater ease of use and
convenience compared with traditional vials and syringes.
• Cartridges are the primary drug containers used with pens.
