  • It must be clear and colorless or

      light amber to permit inspection of
      its contents.
  • Glass types I, II, and III are
      suitable for parenteral products, with
      type I being the most resistant to
      chemical deterioration.

  • Thermoplastic polymers have been established as packaging

      materials for sterile preparations such as LVP, ophthalmic solutions,
      and, increasingly, SVP.
  • Three principal problem areas exist in using these materials:
   1. Permeation
   2. Leaching
   3. Adsorption
