Parenterals: Excipients & additives

• They are used in many parenteral products to adjust the
tonicity of the solution.

• Hypotonic injection solutions are made isotonic by the
addition of sodium chloride, dextrose or mannitol.
Hypertonic injection solutions must be made isotonic by
dilution.
