Actions and Uses:
Preparations of Coleus species have long been used in Hindu and Ayruvidic traditional
medicine, particularly for the treatment of heart diseases, and abdominal colic.
Forskolin has been demonstrated to have hypotensive, cardiotonic and platelet
aggregation inhibitory activity; because of its adenylate cyclase stimulant activity.
Forskolin is now obtained from the cell culture, is being marketed in Japan as
hypotensive and spasmolytic.
Ginkgolides
Ten diterpenoid lactones, ginkgolides A-Q have been reported in G.biloba extract.
Ginkgolides A, B and C had protective effects on cerebral hippocampal neurons
against epilepsy, and improved the memory and learning ability, and alleviated
neuronal injury.
In addition, ginkgolides A, B, and K effectively improved anxiety-like behavior in
mice.
Ginkgolide C could reduce lipid storage and strongly inhibit human
carboxylesterase 2 (hCE2).
