• Classical peak tailing in reversed-phase methods is
      most commonly caused by ionic interactions
      between basic analytes and residual silanols

    • This tailing can be avoided using an endcapped
      column

    • End-capping is a process whereby residual silanol
      groups are treated to convert them to less polar
      surface functional groups (e.g. trimethyl silyl
      derivative).
