very jealous of the Guru's glory and popularity which he believed should
have been his.
Datu proclaimed himself as Guru at Khadoor Sahib, but the Sikhs did not
accept him. One day, Datu arrived in Goindwal and walked straight into Guru
Amardas' room, where Guru Ji was listening to Kirtan. Angry Datu stood
before him. He began yelling, saying that he was just a servant of his
father and could not be the Guru.
Datu kicked Guru Amardas Ji in the
chest. Guru Ji fell on the ground.
Datu seated himself in Guru Amardas'
place, claiming that he was the Guru of
the Sikhs. Guru Amardas who had
been hurt by the fall, got up. He did
not get angry. With utmost humility,
Guru Amardas touched Datu's foot .
He apologized if his stiff old bones hurt Datu’s foot.
Guru Amardas left Goindwal and returned to his ancestral village of
Basarke. The Sikh Sangat followed him there and he continued guiding
them. Before Guru Ji Joti Jot Samaey at the age of 95 on September 1,
1574, he nominated Guru Ramdas as the fourth Guru. Guru Amardas Ji was
the Third Guru from 1552 to 1574.
