small fort, the Kachi Garhi (k~cI gVHI) at Chamkaur the next morning.

Mughals followed Guru Ji and reached the Kachi garhi at Chamkaur
Sahib too. The Sikhs came out in groups of five to fight the enemy.

They would kill many before falling themselves.

On the morning of December 7, 1705, Sahibzada Ajit Singh and
Sahibzada Jujhar Singh asked Guru Ji to send them to fight. Guru

Ji knew that they will not return, but he got them ready with his
own hands and first sent Sahibzada Ajit Singh along with Bhai

Mohkam Singh, Bhai Himmat Singh, Bhai Sahib Singh and another

Sikh. Sahibzada fought bravely and fell after killing many from the
               other side.

Guru Ji and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh saw him fighting bravely. Then

Sahibzada Jujhar Singh left along with four other Sikhs. They
fought like lions. Guru Ji saw his own sons falling in battle.

There were only six lefts- Guru Ji himself, Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai

Dharam Singh, Bhai Sant Singh, Bhai Maan Singh and Bhai Sangat
Singh. They knew that Guru Ji was not safe there. They insisted and

ordered that Guru Ji leave the Kachi garhi and continue to lead the

Sikh nation from somewhere else. It was Hukam from the Panj
Piaray, and Guru Ji had to obey it.

Guru Ji was asked to change his robes with Bhai Sangat Singh. Bhai

Sangat Singh dressed as the Guru and remained behind along with
Bhai Sant Singh to guard the garhi. Guru Ji and rest of Sikhs left.

Guru Ji did not leave quietly. He clapped and told the enemy that

the Guru was leaving. They fought the enemy on the way but
               reached Machhivara Jungle safely.

The Battle of Chamkaur lasted only three days, but it infused a

strong faith in the Sikhs. Now there are several Gurdwaras in this
area that commemorate the Shaheedi of the Sikhs. Gurdwara

Qatalgarh (kqlgVH) is at the spot where the two older Sahibzadas
