Tanvir Kaur
Hello! My name is Tanvir Kaur and I am a graduate of Guru
Nanak Khalsa School in San Jose, California.
I started participating in the Hemkunt Speech Competition
at the age of 7 when my mom signed me up. She would
read Bedtime Stories about Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji to me.
With the help of the amazing teachers at the Khalsa
School, my mom wrote my speech for me and I practiced a
few times a week. At the time, I had no idea what a
speech was and was very nervous about getting up in
front of an audience.
I continued to participate in future speeches and,
eventually, became more and more confident in my ability
to speak in front of people. I was also able to learn about
Sikh History and my roots while doing so. As years passed,
I realized the positive influence that the symposium and
Khalsa School had on my life and personality. I was able to
get over my fear of public speaking and go on to become
the president of the Sikh Student Association in college to help other peers do the same.
The Hemkunt Speech Competition is a platform to gain self-confidence and to develop great public
speaking skills. I would encourage all parents to enroll their children because it really does help shape
your child’s future.
