                   Adverse effects:
                       •  gastrointestinal disturbances

                       •  Central nervous system such as headache and dizziness
                       •  Tendon rupture
                       •  Causes cartilage abnormalities,
                       Avoided, when possible, in children younger than

                          18 years of age
                       •  Not used at all in pregnant women.
                       •  QT  prolongation,  increasing  the  risk  of  Torsades  de

                          Pointes.




                   Rifamycins

                   rifamycin group includes - "classic" rifamycin
                                               -rifamycin derivatives eg: rifampicin (or rifampin), rifabutin.)

                   Mechanism: act by inhibiting bacterial RNA polymerase block elongation of the
                   nascent mRNA molecule
                   Rifampicin (or rifampin)
                   ➢  Usually used in combination with other agents to prevent the emergence of

                      resistant strains.
                              -  treatment of mycobacterial infections
