Infective stage - Egg containing first stage larva
Mode of infection • Ingestion of larvated egg with contaminated food
and drinks.
Diagnostic stage - Unembryonated eggs.
Site of localization - Large intestine
Laboratory Diagnosis
o Stool examination for the characteristic egg (diagnostic stage). Ova should be
quantified since light infections may not require treatment.
o Proctoscopy: The worms can be seen attached to the inflamed and
ulcerated rectal mucosa
