After subtracting any interest paid on outstanding debt from Total Operating Income you are
left with Income Before Taxes. This is the amount on which the company expects to have to
pay taxes.
Income Statement
A financial summary of operations (sales, expenses, net profit) for a specific period of time.
Also called a profit & loss statement (P&L).
Independent Ethics Committee (IEC)
Central Institutional Review Board equivalent for the rest of the world.
Independent Monitoring Committee (IDMC)
Multidisciplinary group convened on a regular basis to monitor, review, and evaluate drug
safety issues regarding any Biogen investigational or commercial product, which may impact
the safety of patients and clinical subjects.
Information Technology (IT)
Department responsible for the study, design, development, application, implementation,
support and/or management of computer-based information systems. At Biogen IT is a part
of Technology and Business Solutions.
Informed Consent Form (ICF)
Developed for each clinical study based on the approved protocol and approved patient
safety information, using the appropriate template.
Informed Top-Down Target Setting
Process to establish targets for the AOP.
Infrastructure Expense
The cost of “keeping the lights on”, including facilities, technology, and communications.
Captures the costs of maintaining our facilities, technology, and communications
infrastructure. These are largely fixed costs that may not be impacted in the short-term by
management decisions.
