Glossary    30







               Computer system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all
               types of spatial or geographical data.

               GL Account

               Financial account that is used to code all transactions and establish the type of expense.

               GL Accounting Flexfield

               The specific account structure defined to fit Biogen’s specific needs. This structure includes
               nine segments, as well as the length, name, and order of each segment within the structure.


               GL Flexfield Account

               Activity associated with an accounting transaction. Accounts are classified into one of six
               categories asset, liability, ownership/stockholders’ equity, revenue, expense, or statistical

               GL Flexfield Company

               Legal entity. Also used for eliminations.

               GL Flexfield Cost Center


               Departments, divisions, or units of an organization where the manager of each is
               responsible for all its associated costs and for ensuring adherence to its cost budgets.


               GL Flexfield Geography

               U.S. sales territory area or international distributor market.

               GL Flexfield Intercompany

               Intercompany entities used to support intercompany balancing.


               GL Flexfield Product

               Commercial, pharmaceutical, clinical, and contract manufacturing products.

               Global Clinical Operations (GCO)

               Co-Leads with the Program Medical Doctors the clinical development plan (Phase 1 through
               Phase 4) for Biogen's early and late-stage programs.

               Global Commercial Strategy (GCS)


               Provides strategic direction and global perspective for commercial and late stage products.
