Buried Treasure
We all hear stories about buried treasure! “Treasure” means silver and gold. Long ago,
these stories say, pirates* buried boxes full of* gold and silver on islands. They hid
the treasure carefully to keep it safe. No one but the pirates knew where they hid the
treasure.
5 • Now, people want to find the treasure. They look for* it on islands. But is it really
there? That is not likely! Pirates did not bury and save their money. The pirates spent
it! They used it up* fast! So, we think there really is no buried treasure. People just like
to think there is! Of course, the stories are fun. And some pirates in them really lived.
But do not waste time looking for buried treasure. The pirates spent it many years ago!
