The Orbis Learner Community Model
Today, much progress is being made to develop models of learning that focus on subject mastery as a
modality of learning for all students. Models of education built on student-centric curriculum, where
learning is the constant and time is the variable. Models that
embrace the various learning styles and interests of individual
learners.
One such initiative is the Education Reimagined project. The
Education Reimagined Vision Document outlines the basis for
the developmental model of the Orbis Learner Community. A
belief that everyone can learn; that mastery should be the goal;
and that every individual learner should have a program of study that is specific to his or her learning
style, pace, and needs.
The OLC model is founded on several assumptions regarding the need for a formal structure of learning,
individuals as learner, and the learning process itself. These assumptions, derived from research,
personal practice, and input from expert educators, frames the understanding and rationale for the
Orbis Learner Community.
